Hi John,
remember it is also called "shy bladder syndrome". Maybe alot of those who are suffering are to 'shy' to seek help....and thus our numbers are low.
Do you know how can we get a copy of the article that was in in the Daily Telegraph?
Ross.

Re: Brisbane support group- Anyone interested?
Hi Nick, Welcome to our chat page. You need to get hold of a copy of " Shy Bladder Syndrome" by Steven Soifer and read it to fully understand Paruresis and the desensitisation practice required to overcome it. The book may be in your local library or you can buy a copy online through Booktopia Books...

Re: List of good toilets for exposure practice
Correction to my last post on this subject. I think I ran the McDonalds chain down to early.... I have just finished a couple of weeks travelling in NSW to Albury, Griffith and Young. Would you believe that the McDonalds at Young has 2 seperate urinal wall bowls with almost full length dividers, so ...

Re: My Perspective On Paruresis
pee&easy, yours is a very encouraging post to read. You seem to be doing all the right things to start to overcome this social anxiety disorder. You have only had AP for 25 years, I had it for 45 years before starting down the recovery road, but am now very much improved. Once you start down the rec...

Why is AP - The Secret Phobia
The Secret Phobia. I was wondering why Avoidant Paruresis is such a secret phobia? It seems that all of us who suffer from it have never been able to talk much to anyone about it during most of our lives. When I first started to have problems peeing around others in my early teens, I just slowly wen...

Re: Travel to Europe
HI Jeremy, I had medium to severe paruresis for over 44 years until I started down the recovery road about 4 years ago. During the years I, like most people with paruresis, had developed various survival skills. One of these was a form of self-hypnosis. I would sit down in a cubicle (even in an airp...

Re: List of good toilets for exposure practice
Travelling again away from Sydney. Just tried out the public toilet in the Albury Myer Shopping centre court. To my surprise it was pretty paruresis friendly. A large room with 4 cubicles and only a 1 1/2 man urinal trough down one end away from the cubicles. There seemed to be plenty of sinks aroun...

Re: Brisbane support group- Anyone interested?
Hi Bruce, I'm glad you have decided to tell some of your friends about your paruresis. I'm sure this will take alot of the stress off for you during the trip. Remember this is a Social Anxiety Disorder, and therefore is mostly in the mind, and our thinking is disordered about what other people are t...

Re: List of good toilets for exposure practice
Another mensroom away from Sydney is at Goulbourn. For years we have been travelling up & down the Hume freeway from Sydney and ususally stop for morning tea or lunch at the McDonalds resturant at the southern end of Goulbourn (2nd Goulbourn turnoff from expressway). The restrooms there are a bit bi...
