Happy Christmas to All Readers

Post by rossco309 » Sat Dec 14, 2013 7:48 am

WOW !!! What a quiet web site this is of late. Where have all those suffering with Avoidant Paruresis/ Shy Bladder gone? All cured or improved by now?
It would be lovely to hear something about how you are all progressing in your recovery efforts.

Anyway I thought that I would continue to add to the postings and maybe stir someone else to post something......

For the Xmas period:-

1. Drink plenty of water,
2. Use restrooms several times a day, (ie. don't avoid going when you need to)
3. Avoid overindulging in legal or illegal drugs.
Besides the health benefits,
4. Repeated restroom use is a part of a graduated exposure therapy program which will help greatly with recovery.
5. From a practical standpoint, using restrooms several times a day may seem daunting if you experience great fear while in them. It will be important to do the process gradually and choose restroom situations that provoke the least anxiety possible at the start of the process.

Guidance from a competent therapist is often needed to begin this process. You can find out more about the process of graduated exposure by reading Steve Soifer’s book "Shy Bladder Syndrome: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Overcoming Paruresis."

Have a Happy, Safe, and Healthy Xmas and New Year to all readers of this PAA Chat Page. May we all continue to improve, and work at it, during 2014.
Ross. :)
